IPL 2023 Schedule: Tournament to start on March 31; Gujarat Titans will face Chennai Super Kings in the first match

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for the 16th edition of the T20 league on Friday (February 17). The tournament will begin on March 31, 2023 with a match between defending champions Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings. Meanwhile, the conference match will be played on May 28.

The opening game will be followed by a double-header the following day on April 1, when Punjab Kings take on Kolkata Knight Riders in the first match of the day followed by a clash between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals. Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Rajasthan Royals in their first match of the season on April 2 and on the same day, Royal Challengers Bangalore will face Mumbai Indians in their first match of the season.

“The 16th season of the marquee event will begin on March 31, 2023, when Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings clash in Ahmedabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium – the largest cricket stadium in the world,” BCCI said in a statement.

It has also been revealed that a total of 70 league matches will be played in the 16th edition of the IPL. During the tournament, 12 stadiums will be completed.
